Emergency Vouchers

In connection with the Student Food Bank, the VSAOC provides assistance and support to students by providing emergency food vouchers. The Voucher Program began in 2007 when the VSAOC developed a system to provide emergency funding to students who were falling through the cracks in the student aid system. The Program provides students in need with gift vouchers for local grocery stores.

Student Food Bank

In the Fall of 2007, the VSAOC took over the operation of our student food bank on campus.  Students can pick up food bag packages, and grocery store gift certificates from the VSAOC office.  Students wanting to contribute to the food bank on campus can bring food or money donations to the VSAOC office.  There will also be a collection box at each event held this year.

The Good Food Box Program

The VSAOC also supports students by providing this program to students who require some help on a monthly basis. More information about the Good Food Box Program can be found at: http://www.goodfoodbox.net

The Good Food Box is a volunteer, nonprofit, healthy food initiative administered by the Food Action Society of the North Okanagan.

Food Action works on food issues “from field to table” focusing on the entire system that puts food on our tables; from growing, processing and distribution of food to its purchasing, cooking and consumption.

We believe that food is vital to the health of individuals and communities, and that access to good, culturally acceptable, healthy food is a basic human right.
