The Constitution is a statement of incorporation required for all legally incorporated societies in BC. The Constitution states the name, purpose and rules for dissolution, in accordance with the Society Act of BC and connected By-Laws.

The KCSA Constitution was first drafted May 15, 1992, with reformatting in 1997 and Constitutional changes occurring in 2004. In keeping with healthy organizational practices, the KCSA engaged in a complete organizational review during 2006/07. As part of this review, the KCSA conducted a thorough Constitutional Review to ensure that the constitution accurately reflected the realities at that time, and whether it supported sound organizational practices and the needs of an ever evolving and thriving organization. To address this task, the KCSA appointed a Committee comprised of the President, the VP Education, a member at large and the General Manager.

The proposed changes, which flowed from this Committee, were presented to the KCSA Executive Council for review and recommendations. Then, the newly drafted and formatted Constitution and By-Laws were formally presented to the study body, for ratification, at the Annual General Meeting on March 15, 2007. The Amendments and reformatting of the Constitution and Governing By-Laws were approved and adopted by the student body. Further, the Corporate Registry for the Province of BC accepted and granted approval for these changes.

In May 2011, the KCSA initiated a legal name change to the student society, from Kal Campus Students’ Association (KCSA) to Vernon Students’ Association – Okanagan College (VSAOC). The Registrar of Companies for the Province of British Columbia approved the legal name change request, and issued a Certificate of Change of Name (Society Act) on May 27, 2011. The Constitution and By-Laws were updated to reflect this legal name change – May 27, 2011.

On July 3, 2013, The Registrar of Companies for the Province of British Columbia approved the amended By-Laws to reflect a change in the fiscal year end, as approved by the membership at the Annual General Meeting on February 5, 2013.
